As enchanted as I was with Siwa's debut album, I decided I wanted to get more of her work and decided on purchasing her EP, which was originally released in 2007. It's a short four song listen and includes "랄랄라", which would also show up on her first album.
Since the EP is short and simple, I'll try to make the review the same. The whole listen is well tied together by Siwa's measured and rich vocal delivery. The EP opens up with the gorgeous classical guitar accented "길상사에서", which is a simple guitar and vocal piece like "랄랄라". It changes pace into the bossa nova rhythm full band tune of "기차를 타고" and then to the slightly electronically brushed, but still acoustically grounded "사실, 난 아직".
The EP never forgets the strongest point of Siwa--her beautiful vocal delivery, which surprisingly doesn't really need to work hard to fit in with the different rock, folk and bossa nova strains in the album. Rather, the compositions shift and bend to her delivery leading to a satisfyingly consistent listen and one that will please those that already follow Siwa. If you only want a short bite of her work, I think her self-titled EP is a great pick, but since one of the four songs also appears on 소요 逍遙, the album might be the better value, if you're not yet a fan. 8/10.
